Policy Development Manager, Trust for America’s Health, August 2020 – Present

Supporting the implementation of TFAH’s Age-Friendly Public Health Systems (AFPHS) initiative, including managing the AFPHS Recognition Program, expanding AFPHS Learning and Action Networks in two states (as well as sustaining the current Learning Networks in Florida and Michigan), coordinating the state expansion program, building and maintaining an AFPHS website, and writing blogs and contributing to journal articles.

Program Manager, engAGED: The National Resource Center for Engaging Older Adults, National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, May 2019 – June 2020

Responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of this National Resource Center funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA). Work closely with the project partners and the AoA project officer, coordinate with a broad group of stakeholders in the development of a National Strategy to Promote the Social Engagement of Older Adults. Educate the Aging Network on the benefits of social engagement of older adults through the development and execution of monthly webinars and newsletters. Developed an evaluation mechanism to capture the success of the Resource Center through metrics that indicate the number of older adults who have become engaged as a result of the Resource Center’s efforts. Engage four new organizations as associate partners for the Resource Center. Implemented a monthly blog series highlighting best practices and expert thoughts on social engagement. Developed and implemented a new workplan. Created three new best practice mechanisms – eight video vignettes, a consumer spotlight series and a program showcase. Supervise the activities of one program assistant.

Worked with cross-functional colleagues to coordinate the timely, thorough review of research grant applications made to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Matched applications with reviewers who demonstrate the appropriate credentials and expertise to make meaningful evaluations of scientific content. Protected the NIH’s credibility by identifying and addressing conflicts of interest. Coordinated and supervised programmatic logistics, including application referrals, data entry, peer review rosters, and proper use of the CSR Committee Management system. Facilitated productive communication between federal employees and reviewers. Ensured that reviewers are properly compensated by analyzing and validating payment information submitted to the NIH Scientific Review Evaluation Activity (SREA) Management and Service Center. Promoted a culture of compliance by clarifying, interpreting, and communicating peer review policies to all program participants. Evaluated reviews and critiques for quality, completeness, and accuracy. Organized meetings, attended study sessions, took detailed notes, and wrote summary statements that provide clear, concise overviews of complex scientific topics. Partnered with the federal Scientific Review Officer to coordinate follow-ups and other necessary steps.

Senior Manager, Community Impact Strategies, Community Preservation & Development Corporation, Silver Spring, MD, August 2014 – September 2017

Facilitated the seamless continuity of CPDC’s Aging in Place initiative through process optimization, coalition building, and programmatic innovation. Onboarded six new community-based partners that served communities in Baltimore, MD, Richmond, VA and Washington, DC.

Onboarded academic research partners from Duke University, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Prioritized workflows, allocated resources, and delegated tasks to ensure the success of multiple concurrent programs. Promoted multidisciplinary cooperation by being actively present across all communities and business units. Developed a process for engaging older adults before, during and after relocation. Compiled, generated, analyzed, and presented quantitative reports that empowered data-driven decision-making. Identified knowledge gaps, codified training needs, and created tools and resources to promote learning agendas. Diversified funding sources by writing grants, developing proposals, and liaising with strategically important donors. Supervised the activities of five site manager, three contractors and three social work interns.

Research Associate, IMPAQ International, LLC, Columbia, MD, December 2012-July 2014

IMPAQ, in partnership with Abt Associates, conducted a national evaluation of ADRCs to determine their effectiveness in enhancing access to long-term services and supports for older adults and persons with disabilities and to identify community characteristics that facilitate ADRC development. The evaluation involves a web-based survey of ADRCs and telephone interviews with 3,400 consumers who have contacted ADRCs. Primary duties on this project include conducting qualitative analyses of process evaluation data, contributing to analysis plans, writing sections of reports, and other ad hoc tasks to support the project. Serving as a researcher on two additional projects related to health care associated infections. Primary duties for both these projects include conducting interviews, coding and analyzing interviews, training analysts to code data, and preparing material for final reports. Corporate Supervisor to four Research Analyst – Responsible ensuring they have project work, providing them guidance on work related tasks, providing advice on career progress, and managing their timesheets.

 

Interdisciplinary Community Health Scholar (ICHS), Gulfcoast North Area Health Education Center (AHEC), University of South Florida, June 2009-July 2009

Served as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team to increase individual and community awareness regarding the effects of tobacco by creating and disseminating tobacco prevention programs, messages and materials to underserved communities and to the professionals who provide care to them.

Graduate Research Assistant, Florida Mental Health Institute, Department of Aging and Mental Health Disparities, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, July 2005-December 2008

Conducted an extensive literature review about health disparities by age and ethnicity for the Behavioral Health Disparities in the State of Florida project.  Analyzed data related to physical and mental health issues among older ethnic minorities. Developed a cultural competence assessment tool to be used to evaluate administrators of mental health programs. Assisted with interviews conducted with administrators at various mental health organizations in the state of Florida.  Prepared and presented conference presentations related to health disparities and cultural competence.  Assisted with the preparation of final reports related to the Behavioral Health Disparities Project.
